The Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra is one of America's Premier Ragtime Orchestras, re-creating the sounds found before the era of talking films and jazz music. Founded in 2010, the Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra is one of the few ensembles in America that uses the original scores and antique instruments to play America's music: Ragtime. The orchestra plays theater, dance, and concert selections using our over 2,000 piece collection of orchestral arrangements from the era. The collection represents over 500 composers and over 30 years of music between 1882 and 1930.
The Orchestra has been heard on radio programs such as Hot Jazz Saturday Night, WXGN Radio, and Ragtime America. Their first CD, "That Teasin' Rag: Vintage American Arrangements from the Ragtime Era", was released on the Rivermont Label in 2011, and has been called one of the most satisfying ragtime collections available.
Andrew Greene, 22, is a young authority on orchestral ragtime and silent film accompaniment. He is the Founder, Conductor, and Director of the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra (formerly the Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra), one of America's premier ragtime ensembles dedicated to preserving and performing America's music: Ragtime. Mr. Greene founded the orchestra while a freshman at the University of Maryland, College Park, hoping to draw attention to this neglected but historically-important music.
He is the curator of the Arthur C. Ziegler, E.J. McBride, Katherine Lingham, and Palm Leaf Ragtime Orchestra collections, along with his own personal collection of orchestrated ragtime, piano solos, and records. The collection totals over 3,000 selections of music from 1862 to 1950, including ragtime, theatre selections, dance music, and silent film scores.
